Charles F. Tunnicliffe
Now, Tunnicliffe is my absolute favourite artist - his work is completely beautiful. I can't get enough of seeing his paintings and drawings.
He was born in 1901 Langley, Macclesfield England - he lived on a farm as a youngster, where he loved watching the wildlife.
He went to school in Sutton St James' C.E. Primary and went on to win a scholarship to the Royal College of Art.
He soon became well known as a highly talented commercial artist.
As well as creating a vast number of illustrations for other Authors he also published several of his own books, to name but a few "My Country Book", "Birds of the Estuary", "Mereside Chronicles".
His illustrations were also used in Brooke Bond Tea Cards and as a result were seen by millions of people in Britain during the 1950s to 1960s and are great collectors items now. He illustrated several Lady Bird books as well.
He worked in a number of different mediums including, watercolour, etching, wood engraving, scratch-board and oils.
